Periodically Speaking: Poetry and Community

New York, NY—The Council of Literary Magazines and Presses [clmp] and The New York Public Library present a new season of Periodically Speaking in a new format. This next selection of readings will include discussions between writers and an editor focusing on poetry. Periodically Speaking provides a major venue for emerging writers to introduce their work and discuss topics designed to deepen the understanding of literature, while highlighting the richness of America's literary magazines and the magazine collections of The New York Public Library. Each event offers brief readings with in-depth discussion between an editor from one of America's great literary magazines and poets they've recently published, exploring an issue facing contemporary poetry.

6x6
To date, Ugly Duckling Presse (UDP) has published twenty issues of 6x6, a poetry magazine that is easily recognizable by its distinctive corner-cut and rubber band binding. Every issue contains six poets who are each given six pages to present their work; UDP encourages projects that specifically explore this format. 6x6 publishes poets of all ages from all over the United States and abroad. UDP is very grateful for generous funding from the New York State Council on the Arts, which helps support the production of 6x6.

Editor Garth Graeper in discussion with poets Michael Vizsolyi, Laura Sims and Rick Snyder.

Brief readings by the writers will be followed by an in-depth discussion of poetry and community.
