CLMP's 2nd Literary Publishing Intern Training Workshop

The Literary Publishing Intership Training Workshop will be held in our offices on Friday, September 27, 2002 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This workshop is the second and final intern training session that CLMP will host as part of the New York State Technical Assistance Program [NYTAP]. Applications are due on September 13, 2002.

Thanks to support from the New York State Council on the Arts' Literature Program, CLMP is offering publishers in New York State and the greater tri-state area the opportunity to enroll interns in an intensive and very hands-on workshop that will provide training in all aspects of literary publishing and nonprofit operations. What's more, the workshop is free for CLMP member publishers based in New York State, and is open to non-members and out-of-state publishers for a small fee.

Participating interns will learn everything from basic clerical skills to the specific mechanics of the editorial process. Sessions on how to write the perfect business letter, fact checking, manuscript logging, production processes, marketing, and managing events will prepare your intern for every day tasks as well as the most complicated special project. Your magazine or press will certainly benefit from the contributions of a specially trained intern—and think of the precious hours that you and your staff will save by allowing CLMP to assist with the time-consuming task of structured training!

Best of all, the workshop will be co-run by two top professionals in the field of literary publishing. Linda Gardiner, editor and publisher of the Women's Review of Books, is an experienced publishing consultant and seminar leader. Linda has provided consulting services to dozens of literary magazines and progressive journals as well as organizations such as the Independent Press Association. She was also a prominent workshop leader for CLMP’s NEA-funded national program, The Literary Journal Institute. Julie Koo is the managing editor at Kaya Press, a publisher of Asian and Asian diasporic literature. At Kaya, Julie oversees finances, sales and marketing, production, and fundraising. She was formerly the Web site coordinator at CLMP, where she oversaw the creation of www.clmp.org. She currently works at Fordham University's Office of Public Affairs, where she manages production workflow. She is also a principal at Akoobatz LLC, a Web site hosting and consulting firm.

We urge you to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Please don't delay; space in this workshop is strictly limited! If you have any questions, please call Katherine Sarkis at 212-741-9110 x12 or e-mail at tdidato@clmp.org. We look forward to receiving your application.
