Ducts is a free online literary magazine that focuses on the art of personal narrative. Our editorial team seeks to unearth a diverse group of voices—including both established and emerging talent—and to provide a beautifully designed home for their stories. Ducts publishes two issues per year, in June and December, including fiction, memoir, essays, art, humor, and poetry.

Ducts was founded in 1999 with the intent of giving emerging writers a venue to regularly publish personal narrative.

Ducts accepts rolling submissions for fiction, poetry, essays, memoir, humor, and art. We pay each author $20 per published piece. Illustrators who provide art to accompany a published piece receive $10 per image. For written work, Ducts retains exclusive rights for 6 months after publication (meaning that the work cannot be published elsewhere). After the 6 months are up, the contributor may publish their work anywhere they like, although Ducts respectfully requests that if a piece is later reprinted, it will include an acknowledgment of first publication in Ducts. Only original, previously unpublished submissions are considered.
