MWWM is a product of Ludington Writers, a diverse group of wordsmith enthusiasts and practitioners. Inspired by each other and the beauty of the lakeshore and landscapes around us, our mission is to engender creativity within our local community and beyond.
We want to see original work that avoids the trappings of cliché and generally sentimental language. Wow us with your unique perspective and lyrical voice. Be consistent with your point of view, tenses, rhythm and rhyme. And remember to follow the submission guidelines.
Submissions will open from May 1st through June 12th each year for September publication. Our response time is three months.
Previously unpublished works only.
Simultaneous submissions are allowed. However, submitters must notify our editors immediately if their work is accepted by another publication.
All electronic submissions should be made through Submittable.
Printed submissions must include a SASE and be mailed to:
Making Waves c/o LACA
107 S. Harrison St.
Ludington, MI 49431
A fee of $3 will be required for each set of submissions.
Each submission may include up to two (2) pieces of either poetry, prose, or one of each.
All submitters will receive a link to an electronic copy of Making Waves.
Submission fees will help pay for our subscription to an electronic submissions manager. Any additional funds collected will be used to fund scholarships, workshops, and other community events to promote creative writing.
Submitters grant First Rights to publish to Making Waves. We may reprint accepted work on our website, LudingtonWriters.org. Otherwise, all rights revert to the author upon publications.
Submissions must be .doc or .pdf files only.
All submissions must use 12-point type with one-inch margins. Our font preference is Times New Roman.
Prose should be double spaced. Poetry submissions may be single or double-spaced, as required by the form chosen by the author.
Each submission should include a cover page with the author’s name, mailing address, phone number, and email address in the upper left of the page and the title(s) of the submission in the center with a short author bio two spaces below.
Each submission is limited to no more than two (2) pieces with a maximum of five (5) pages per submission.
NOTE: keep in mind that space limitations on the physical page allow for no more than 60 characters per line and 30 lines per page. This means our editorial team may have to adjust the spacing of your poem if accepted. If this interrupts something in your poem, please consider adjusting your work before submitting.
Each set of submissions is limited to no more than two (2) pieces of stand-alone fiction or non-fiction of 1,000 words or less (not counting the text from the cover page).
