Ploughshares welcomes unsolicited submissions of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction from June 1 to January 15 each year. The print literary journal (also available in multiple digital formats) is published quarterly: mixed issues of poetry and prose in the Spring and Winter, a prose issue in the summer, and a longform prose issue in the Fall, with two of the four issues per year guest-edited by a different writer of prominence.
The regular reading period is open to unpublished poetry, short stories, creative nonfiction, translations, and longform writing. Since 1971, Ploughshares’s award-winning journal of new writing has discovered and cultivated the freshest voices in contemporary literature. Please review the 2021 reading period guidelines to submit works for consideration.
