Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Welcome to Mason Street, the new literary magazine housed at Newark Public Library, located in Newark, NY. We’re part of the Pioneer Library System, a network of 42 public library branches in New York State! We are also a member of the New York State Library Association. We've been around for one year, and have already been mentioned in Book Riot. As an electronic journal, our web content is available everywhere. Please take the time to explore our site, and like us on Facebook. Mason Street publishes fiction, nonfiction, poetry of less than a page, spoken word videos, artwork and photography. We’ll showcase both known and excellent emerging authors in our featured sections. Featured Section: Our featured section includes a dynamic column, "My Library Memories," where authors and public figures share their memories of the public libraries and books they grew up with. So far our guests have included authors Lois Lowry, The mystery author(s) Charles Todd, and our Fall 2020 Issue features bestselling author David Baldacci. Our Winter Issue will feature former United States Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera. Additionally we've published work by poet Marge Piercy. COMMUNITY ROOM BLOG SPOT As a community-oriented space we’ll also do our best to include lots of neat additional writing and art we’ve received on our Community Room blog page, including budding local authors, patrons, youth authors (ages 12-17) and novice artists. We publish three issues per year: Fall, Winter and Spring. As well, we have a "Summer Zine." I'm considering consolidating this into two issues (Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer.) We nominate for the Pushcart Prizes.
