Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Our mission is to publish quality writing regardless of race, age, gender, sexuality, education, or anything else. We believe that writing has the power to save lives—we've witnessed it. Art and trauma, the human experience, and our ability to gather those things and create something powerful is what we live for. Writing transcends our identities and brings strangers together, silences hate, and proves that we can create beauty from the ugly and the scary. Nervous Ghost Press wants to bring back writing from the heart. We advocate for our communities and will always strive to be a champion for positivity, growth, and change. We're looking for poems and stories that were written to save the life of the writer; raw, unadulterated, fearless.

We accept submissions from all writers, represented or not, from anywhere in the world. Our book prizes are open to the US only, with our open reading periods open to the globe. We require a nominal reading fee (helps pay our readers for their time as well as ensure that we can give each and every submission the care it deserves). We have a policy that if anyone is unable to afford the reading fee, they can contact us and we will find a solution. No one should ever miss out on opportunities due to financial difficulties. Submissions must be in PDF (Word doc requested if work/ manuscript is accepted) 12 point font, double spaced. All genres are accepted except for work in translation. Any subject matter is accepted (obviously excluding racism and other verified hate).

How Are Submissions Processed In Your Magazine/press?
Submissions are handled in a blind process manner, meaning no names or identifying information is reveled until a decision has been made. Doing so, allows our readers a chance to evaluate the submissions without any preconceived notions or bias.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
All submissions are different and we understand that. We aren't looking for a specific, "perfect" submission, but rather, we love to see work that really pushes the boundaries of what art can do. We want work that was written as an act of survival.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Submit. Do your best and trust yourself. If you believe in your work, someone else will too. With that in mind, remember to be realistic and understand that just because you submit work, doesn't mean it will be accepted. But always try.
