Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Rat ‘n’ Rooster Journal of Speculative Fiction and Poetry is a new online literary journal which will be published bimonthly. We aim to feature visionary works of speculative fiction and engaging poetry from the historical to the futuristic. We encourage BIPOC and LGBTQ + writers to submit their work. We pay upon acceptance, $55 per story and $15 per poem.

What Is The Staff Structure At Your Magazine/press?
Two person operation. One reads the fiction side of the journal, the other, the poetry. Then we exchange them with each other to see if there's something the other might have overlooked. We work hard to build a concensus around each submission.
Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
Succinct. A short bio containing a listing of the last two or three places published.
How Are Submissions Processed In Your Magazine/press?
We have a carefully constructed rubric that we follow that looks for originality, technical quality, as well as overall appeal for each submission.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
We're on the lookout for original, well crafted, stories with strong characterization depicting the complexities and depths of the diverse human experience. We’re looking for poems that run the gamut from the fantastical to the historical.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Pay attention to your nuts and bolts; spelling, grammar and sentence structure. How well does the story or poem flow?
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
Our ideal reader understands that reading good stories and good poems is a part of a daily mental hygiene regimen. Reading good works helps one put the world and all it's struggles in perspective.
