The Green Stories project works with Habitat Press to create cultural body of work that entertains and informs about green solutions, inspires green behaviour and raises awareness of the necessary transformations towards a sustainable economy. Since 2018 we’ve run 20 free competitions resulting in numerous publications.
Our current flash fiction competition is about moments of epiphany where attitudes/behaviours change for the greener – see https://www.greenstories.org.uk/flash-fiction-competition-epiphanies/ with £1000 ($/€1200) worth of prizes. Deadline 27th August 2025.
Winning entries will be published as an anthology.
In a follow up short film competition, we will invite film-makers to select their favourite story to adapt as a short film.
Open to all (18+) , as long as entries are in English and are unpublished (exceptions can be made where the writer owns the copyright).

This helps to share the work of other eco-fiction writers, and gives entrants the opportunity to read examples that successfully fulfil the Green Stories brief.
