Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Anhinga Press, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)3 operating in Tallahassee, Florida. We publish four full-length poetry books per year and one chapbook per year. Since 1974 our mission has been to bring quality poetry to a broad audience by publishing poetry, sponsoring poetry events and educational activities, participating in writers conferences, working with area colleges, making our books available as textbooks for students, and networking with other arts organizations as a good citizen of the arts community and the community at large. We are a proud supporter of community organizations like Second Harvest of the Big Bend; a percentage of our annual contest fees go directly to “feed 11 counties in Florida’s Big Bend.” We have two contests: The Anhinga Prize for Poetry and the Rick Campbell Chapbook Prize

Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
Be honest--don't pretend to have read our books (but if you are being dishonest, be convincing.) Be brief-- whether being honest or not.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
Good work and a sense that the poet will work hard to promote the book.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Write well. Wait till you have a good book before submitting.
Do You Have A Favorite Unsolicited Submission Discovery Or Anecdote?
Yes, when Robert Dana asked me at dinner in Pittsburgh if I wanted to publish his book. I said yes.
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
Me. Well, not just for ego reasons; I guess Anhinga publishes mostly books I like. So the ideal reader would like what I like.
