Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
While many people disregard the power of experiential events, these phenomena strike at artists attuned to the world’s sublimity materializing around them. For many, such events signify nothing but often is the case that all people bear the impacts like gravity grounding them to the earth. Once every nineteen years, one month out of the year lacks a full moon. This phenomenon only transpires in February; it is called the black moon. Black Moon Magazine dedicates itself to the discovered intersections of mixed-medium, art, and diversity. Our editors regard the culpability and duty of narrative, whether narrative casts light on world terrors or spotlights the beauty of being. We subscribe that art should transcend the limitations of the surface and carry purpose. Like the black moon—an absence of the full moon, its silent imprint persisting in your memory —we desire writing that impresses language, imagery, and experience on our readers so that long after they have concluded, each work will flicker in the subconscious of their minds. BMM believes in the power of writing to alter our readers, our editors, and our writers, to ripple out through the world in waves of creative impact. We aim to highlight global experience with readers of all backgrounds and identities, and we accept all styles, forms, subject matters. BMM is moving to a twice a year publication schedule after our July 2024 issue. Beginning in 2025, we will publish in January and July. The journal publishes poetry, fiction, and interviews. The journal currently accepts poetry, fiction, and visual art, but we hope to expand into other genres as we evolve. Presently, our editors conduct all interviews.
