Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
A woman telling her story is a revolutionary act. Unless she did something very incredible (or very, very bad) most women don't get named in history. HerStry wants to rewrite the narrative and put women’s stories front and center. Since 2015 we have collected hundreds of stories from women all over the world. Stories about love, loss, motherhood, friendship, and so much more. We all have something to say, and we all have experiences worth sharing. HerStry wants to get every woman writing, talking, and sharing her story.

How Did You Arrive At Your Current Position?
I founded HerStry as a blog, not knowing what I was doing. Over the years we've grown into the organization that we are today. We couldn't do what we do without our amazing online community.
What Is The Staff Structure At Your Magazine/press?
Our Staff is as Follows: Julia Nusbaum: Founder and EIC (paid)
Nic Naudi: Staff Editor and Social Media Manager (paid)
Joycelyn Ghansah: Columnist (paid)
Two editorial interns (unpaid)
Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
It's not imperative to list every single place you have been published. When a writer's cover letter is just a list of publications in which their work appears I'm less interested in them. Pick a few that you are proud of.
How Are Submissions Processed In Your Magazine/press?
Our submissions are split up between the EIC, Staff Editor (s) and HerStry interns.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
I personally look for essays that read like stories. I tend to skip over submissions that sound like expository essays.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Just do it. It's hard. And it's scary. But know that everyone gets rejections. There are lots of magazines, you just have to find the one that is the right fit.
Do You Have A Favorite Unsolicited Submission Discovery Or Anecdote?
HerStry loves publishing first time writers. So if you have yet to be published submit to us!
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
Women and girls between 15 and 150.
