Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Kithe: a journal for new art and writing Kithe is an old Scots word that means to make or become known. At Kithe, we believe that all art is an effort to be made known: we show to each other through language and art what and who we are. Through our work, we are made, and become, known to one another. To that end, we’re looking for pieces that makes known the kind of stories we haven’t heard before or tells old stories in new ways. We want your art and writing that holds the not-yet-known and engages in kithing the reader or viewer, so that by the time they’re on the other side of your work they have been kithed: made known to your story.

This is very much in progress, but here are our guidelines so far, and the statement we're putting on our website/submittable: General Guidelines: Fiction and Nonfiction - Under 4,250 words Poetry - up to 3 pages Art - no more than 10 pieces (including series) Kithe occasionally solicits pieces, but regularly chooses work from our general submissions. Please submit! We want to see your art and writing. Our reading process is partially blind: our primary reader sees names and other identifying information, but once pieces are passed on to our editors for selection, they are blind. We do this in an effort to combat our own biases. In our first round, we balance our choices to include a diverse array of voices. In our second round, our editors gravitate to the work they love, regardless of who it’s by. Whether or not your piece is selected, you will receive an email from Kithe. Though we would love to offer personalized feedback for every writer, we aren’t always able to do that given the size of our current team. Please know that we appreciate the time, effort and courage it takes to share your art and writing.
