Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Founded in 1975, Oakwood is South Dakota State University's literary annual; we publish a handsome print edition in the spring followed by web publication via our university's archive, which contains our complete history.  Oakwood seeks to publish and foster the work of the literary community of the Northern Great Plains. Though much of what we publish deals with regional life, we are more interested in what people in the region have to say about the human experience than we are in focusing on place. We publish work from writers of the entire Northern Great Plains region (which we define as South Dakota and adjoining states) at all levels of experience, including those living here now and those who have been shaped by the region but currently live elsewhere.

Submissions Policy
We do not charge for submissions (in keeping with our sponsor's identity as a land-grant university). We accept submissions from mid-November to mid-February for an issue that is typically released in late April. (Printing on campus allows for a tight timeline.) In order to preserve our regional identity, we require submitters to "Indicate your relationship with the Northern Great Plains region in your submission email."
