Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
PINK TREES PRESS began in 2012, creating small batches of handmade books. In 2019, the press started producing Origami Books. The simplicity and low cost of these books, allowed Pink Trees Press to reach a larger audience. In 2020, Pink Trees Press began producing mass-marketed books. Our first book was the Silver Tongued Devil Anthology co-edited by Linda Kleinbub and Anthony C. Murphy celebrating five years of outstanding East Village poetry, fiction, memoirs, essays, storytelling, humor, and spoken word by more than one hundred twenty writers who were featured at Rimes of The Ancient Mariner Reading Series. The book was archived by the New York Public Library Tompkins Square Branch and was included in the exhibition Indy Indeed: A Half Century of Downtown's Independent Presses. Our publications include: POETRY Poems from an Unending Pandemic by Phillip Giambri (Pink Trees Press, 2021) Dysfunction: A Play on Words in the Familiar by Pauline Findlay (Pink Trees Press, 2022) Naming a Hurricane by Madeline Artenberg (Pink Trees Press, 2023) Spellbook of Ordinary Mistakes by Jane LeCroy (Pink Trees Press, 2024) MEMOIRS Good Boy, Bad Boy, A Better Man by Phillip Giambri (Pink Trees Press, 2022) The Bookstore Book by Ron Kolm (Pink Trees Press, 2023) ANTHOLOGIES Silver Tongued Devil Anthology (Pink Trees Press, 2020) Two additional books are currently being prepared for publication within the next year. We plan to publish future anthologies that cover social justice and environmental issues. We currently curate many literary events nationwide that encourage writers to grow and learn from one another. We have organized readings at the annual New York City Poetry Festival since 2015. We host events in local community gardens during the summer months. We have participated in the Easton Book Festival since the year 2021. We attend the AWP Conference yearly and hosted off-site readings there since 2022. We regularly host events at various branches of the New York Public Library and the Queensborough Public Library. We participate in community arts festivals where we educate attendees on our work and promote our books. Our artist in residence is Linda Wulkan, a graphic artist who has designed three covers for Pink Trees so far. Our press continues to grow publishing individual poetry and memoir collections born out of the New York City downtown arts scene. Presently we are publishing writers who have been active in the arts community who are talented and skilled writers but have not been published in book form recently. The following Pink Trees Press books: Silver Tongued Devil Anthology, Poems from an Unending Pandemic, Good Boy, Bad Boy, A Better Man, and The Bookstore Book have been accepted into the archives of New York University, Ohio State University, and Stanford University libraries. We are working on our website. We have a strong, growing presence on social media platforms, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, and use this to reach out to our cyberspace audience. We hope to grow into a press that will offer educational workshops, and literary engagement projects while continuing to publish high-quality work.
