Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
This piece of hybrid literature is an ancient tome that contains Black and biracial hairstories from their African origins to modern day times. No one knows the true identity of this codex’s creators, but it is rumored to have been written by a mother and her daughter. More evidence points to the village oracle and her apprentice. But no one is certain. All they have is a pen name: Twisted Locks. Those from far and wide seek out the tome. Some are out to seek knowledge; perhaps they are in new territory with a late natural hair journey or they grew up without one or more parents who had hair like them. Some are out to seek visibility; perhaps they’ve always wanted to tell their story without pressure or a plethora of questions from curious bystanders. Some are out to seek community; perhaps they want to feel less alone about the hair challenges they faced but were too scared to reach out in fear of judgment.
