Opportunities

Annual Opportunities and Deadlines

The following are opportunities for increasing organizational capacity, receiving regrant support, and participating in sales opportunities offered every year with application or registration deadlines. Note that New York-based publishers have access to additional opportunities through the NYSCA NYTAP program.

All CLMP publishers receive regular notice of new opportunities, plus notification of annual deadlines and RFPs (“Requests for Proposals”) throughout the year. In addition to the below, CLMP regularly invites CLMP members to take part in public programming, such as our panel discussions at the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Conference. Members also receive invitations to regularly scheduled technical assistance roundtables, clinics, workshops and networking gatherings.

Consulting

CLMP offers the following at no additional cost to CLMP members. Other services available for nominal additional fees can be found under Products & Services.

This program offers publishers throughout the U.S. the opportunity to apply for up to ten free hours with a professional consultant. RFPs are announced every fall.

Consultations with the CLMP staff

Our expert staffers are available to meet informally with publishers to strategize projects and help initiate collaborations. Publishers are also encouraged to schedule Annual Checkups for general review and to take advantage of CMLP’s “bird’s eye view” of the field. Staff consultations and CLMP members may schedule consultations or check-ups throughout the year.

Book and Literary Magazine Fairs

CLMP partners with various book fairs and festivals on an ad hoc basis; the following represent annual opportunities:

Frankfurt Book Fair

Through a special barter agreement with the Frankfurter Buchmesse, CLMP publishers may participate in the world’s largest book trade show, with booth representation, at no cost. The Frankfurt Book Fair takes place each October, and registration to be part of the CLMP contingent happens each spring.

Book Expo

CLMP publishers may wish to take advantage of discounted presence at BookExpo, America’s largest book trade show, with discounted individual day passes available as well. BEA takes place every May, with CLMP discount codes distributed in the spring.

Press Fest!

CLMP presents an indie lit block party in conjunction with the PEN World Voices Festival, taking place in the spring every year. Publishers may sell books and host thematic activities during this lively event. Click here for more info

For New York Publishers

NYSCA NYTAP (New York State Technical Assistance Program): Serving the Literary Publishers of New York State

This roster of programming provides additional opportunities for New York State-based publishers, including NYSCA regrants and modest travel grants.

Firecracker Awards for Independently Published Literature

CLMP’s annual Firecracker Awards, presented in partnership with the American Booksellers Association, highlight the work of our community and encourage prize-winning indie press and lit mag wares to be featured in stores across the country. The ceremony takes place each May or June. Submissions for the awards open each fall.
