Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Creature is a feminist horror press. Our press is home to sharp-toothed, scaly-skinned, many-tentacled ideas that crawl out of the shadows of oppression, repression, and fear and onto the page. While we acknowledge that categories have a certain utility, we refuse to separate horror, thriller, sci-fi, and fantasy from each other or the literary from the mainstream. Creature publishes books that celebrate this fluidity—the ability to cross boundaries and inhabit more than one category at once. A creature has bones to pick. A creature has desire. A creature can be human, nonhuman, or anything in between. It can have gender or not, body or not, consciousness or not. It can be sinister or benevolent, familiar or “other.” The monster under the bed, the monster in bed with us, the monster inside. Our creatures are strong, shifting, and multiple. We like it that way.

Submissions Policy
Creature publishes up to four full-length works of feminist horror a year. Our definition of feminist horror is broad and inclusive, and we welcome writing that pushes boundaries. We prefer submissions in the range of 25,000–60,000 words (100–250 pages) and accept fiction, nonfiction, or genre-defying prose. Submissions should be either .docx or .pdf files, in 12 pt. font. We welcome simultaneous submissions, but please notify us if your manuscript is accepted elsewhere. Completed manuscripts only.
