Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
IHRAM expands the power of art and supports artists in their quest to heal the world. We utilize the soul-force of positive creativity in all media to work toward a world where human rights are honored equally for all. IHRAM Values: Beauty as a fundamental creative principle; Sincerity and Vulnerability of presentation; Celebrating Diversity and opening doorways of Engagement! Narrative Description of the IHRAM Literary Magazine and Press: The International Human Rights Art Movement (IHRAM) offers creative programs promoting freedom of expression, human rights, and social justice around the world. We envision a world where Artist activism is honored as a human right and a source of social change. Beyond IHRAM’s literary journal, awards, fellowships, and groundbreaking performances, the IHRAM’s expanding library of anthologies provides another manner of highlighting voices from around the world, exploring issues of concern to the writers in their home countries and cultures. Although the IHRAM is known for its anthology series — including Hear Their Voices, and the Rapid Response Series, which address current, severe human rights concerns — the press is expanding into single-author short stories, memoirs, and commercial nonfiction. The IHRAM Literary Press was established upon the success of the IHRAM Literary Magazine, an open-submission, rolling online publication. The IHRAM Literary Magazine publishes an ever-expanding collection of original works from lesser-known and up-and-coming writers who seek to bring attention to urgent social justice issues around the world. We base our work on the values of beauty, sincerity, vulnerability, engagement, and celebration of diversity. Since its inception, the magazine as published poems, short stories, and essays from 50 countries and 30 U.S. States. IHRAM expands the power of art and supports artists in their quest to heal the world. We utilize the soul-force of positive creativity in all media to work toward a world where human rights are honored equally for all. We bring together all members of society through our programming, from artists-in-exile and at risk; to activists on the front lines of the struggle for rights and justice in their own country; to creators working in all media; to national and international politicians, government agencies, social leaders and celebrities. We believe that creative engagement with all members of society is the surest path toward social justice and positive change.
