Title
Founder and Executive Editor, Madrona Books
How Did You Arrive At Your Current Position?
I started Madrona Books as a way to connect readers to the kinds of authors I most admire. I started my editorial career at Latah Books in Spokane, and I've also read submissions for places like New England Review and Willow Springs.
What Is The Staff Structure At Your Magazine/press?
Right now, it's a staff of one! But I do see Madrona's growth as a long-term commitment. I'm not sure there will be any DOJ lawsuits over a Madrona/Penguin Random House merger, but we aim to grow large enough to best serve our authors and readers.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
I love books written by people who love the natural world, who tell fun stories, and who are ambitious (in their lives and on the page). But anything with heart, ambition, and/or humor is usually going to win me over. Also, make it polished!
