How Did You Arrive At Your Current Position?
I was tired of seeing very few publications accept novel excerpts -- and even these either forced the excerpts into the form of a short story or the excerpts came from already-published novels. That is how Novel Slices came into being.
What Is The Staff Structure At Your Magazine/press?
We are very new and have only two editors at this time. Look for application announcements soon for more manuscript readers.
Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
Bio and general cover letter are fine. We focus on the writing itself.
How Are Submissions Processed In Your Magazine/press?
Only contests entries.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
Compelling narrative, all genres welcome, well-developed characters and clean, evocative language.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Our contests are statistically an excellent chance, as we have 5 winners instead of the usual 1. We are also the only publication focusing solely on novel excerpts, and they feel like real pieces of novels, not excerpts crammed into story form.
Do You Have A Favorite Unsolicited Submission Discovery Or Anecdote?
We were amazed by the flood of entries for our first contest -- over and over, writers told us that they are excited to finally have a place to submit previously-unpublished novel excerpts. All of our winners were wildly excited!
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
Novel readers, literary agents and small press editors. We love readers who want to see excerpts from exciting new novels but our ultimate goal is to help get novel manuscripts published.
