We publish poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, features and reviews alongside contemporary art. Launching in 2023, Riddle Fence Publishing is proud to announce a new imprint: Riddle Fence Debuts will publish 4 titles a year, focusing on poetry, fiction, and non-fiction manuscripts selected from among former Riddle Fence contributors who have not yet been published in book form.

Submissions Policy
Riddle Fence employs a full team of arts editors for poetry, fiction, non-fiction and visual art who select the content of the magazine. These selections are forwarded to our ED, Megan Coles, for final approval, before contributors receive acceptances and contracts. Full submissions guidelines are on our website and here below: Riddle Fence is a Newfoundland and Labrador-based journal of arts and culture, published four times yearly. We endeavour to publish high-quality fiction, non-fiction, poetry, visual art, reviews and features. We only accept previously unpublished work. Riddle Fence licenses first serial rights (copyright remains with the author) and pays $30 per published page for written works and standard CARFAC fees for visual art. For fiction and nonfiction, our suggested maximum word count is 3,000 words, but if it’s brilliant and a bit longer, send it over. For nonfiction, we’re looking for essays on the arts or on particular artists, or on aspects of culture and art as an idea or as a specific practice, in addition to reviews. We are also seeking creative non-fiction with a strong narrative drive. For poetry, all poems in a single submission should be included in a single document (.doc files preferred) attached to the email. Poems should NOT be typed into the body of the email. Poetry submissions may be single-spaced. Please submit no more than 10 pages per submission (3 to 5 poems is best). No more than one poem on a page. For visual art: 300 dpi minimum. We publish in full colour but we also accept black and white Riddle Fence accepts simultaneous submissions, but you MUST inform us immediately if your work has been accepted elsewhere. We receive many submissions, and it may take up to 6 months for a response.
