How Did You Arrive At Your Current Position?
I started the magazine.
What Is The Staff Structure At Your Magazine/press?
The magazine has a print editor, a video editor, and contributing editors for book reviews and feature articles. These editor positions are unpaid, but each published story, feature, and book review is paid. The magazine hires freelance proofreaders.
Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
A cover letter is not required, but the magazine prints a brief note for each contributor. This note says where the author lives, their occupation, and previous magazine and book publications. The note does not list academic degrees, awards, prizes.
How Are Submissions Processed In Your Magazine/press?
All submissions have come via email, though we are open to regular mail. We read all written manuscripts and study all images. Submissions that show the sender has not read the guidelines posted on the website are deleted.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
We look for original thought, command of the English language, logical sequence, and appeal of subject matter to the general reader. We are open to video clips of reading aloud, interviews, and literary discussion.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Please read an issue or watch an episode on CPA-TV.
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
Rivanna Review serves the intelligent reader, someone who is educated, interested in new fiction, and wants to know about new books and authors.
