Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Now in our 18th year, Slate Roof Press is member-run and committed to publishing the best new voices in poetry with a focus on Massachusetts and regional poets. Each poet works with our member/master letterpress printer Ed Rayher to design their books, which feature letterpress covers, local artwork, special papers, and hand-sewn bindings. We are also focused on the collaborative process among our members. Membership requires a three-year work commitment, with an average of 8-10 hours of work per month, including a monthly business meeting. Typical member tasks include reviewing manuscripts, managing consignment accounts and mailing lists, printing and assembling books, editing and design, accounting, promotion, and readings.
