Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
The Dark Sire is a quarterly literary magazine that publishes gothic, horror, fantasy, and psychological short fiction, poetry, and art. The mission of TDS is to give a voice to the voiceless, which includes creative works that have had difficulty finding a home due to contraversial subject matter. A particular focus is on mystery, psychosis, suspense, and looming darkness with suitable subject matter including, but not limited to, vampires, monsters, old castles, dragons, magic, mental illness, hell, disease, or decay of society. LGBTQ+ and international creatives welcome!

Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
Cover letters should address the editor, briefly give a synopsis of the work -- which includes the word length (short fiction), lines (poetry), and materials (art), and introduce the author.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
Adherence to submission guidelines, professionalism, and masterful writing style (in that order) are absolutely crucial for a successful submission.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Take your time! It's better to have a clean copy of text that screams professional storyteller than a rushed one that marks an amateur attempt. This includes everything from the query letter to the work itself. Take time to represent yourself well.
Do You Have A Favorite Unsolicited Submission Discovery Or Anecdote?
Recently, I had a submission from an author who read our debut issue to get a feel for the material we represented. From that, the author crafted a poem specifically for TDS, in a style that truly fit the magazine. I was extremely impressed!
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
One who loves delving into dark subject matter with a twist into the psychological. In short, the reader who likes work influenced by Edgar Allan Poe, Anne Rice, Stephen King, and Fyodor Dostoevsky.
