Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Lawrence Landing Company is the parent company of Serving House Books and Broken Tribe Press, as of April 2024. Serving House Books (SHB) was founded by the late Thomas E Kennedy of Copenhagen and Walter Cummins of New Jersey in 2009. The mission was to give a home to reputable authors that could not find a press in a changing market and to republish out of print books. The focus has been on international literary fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and artwork. In 2024, Dr. William K Lawrence was appointed chief publisher of SHB with the mission of bringing the press into the future with new authors. Lawrence intends on continuing the original vision of the founders, serving the classic roster of authors, and recruiting a new diverse set of writers. The immediate focus is on literary short fiction, novels, novellas, poetry, creative nonfiction, unclassifiable books, and artwork. Lawrence also acquired Broken Tribe Press to focus on edgier, more experimental, more local, national U.S. works. The mission of this press will also be to accommodate artists who haven't been able to find a home press or feel at home with a publisher that gives them creative input.
