Membership Senior Manager
Position Overview
The Community of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP), the only nonprofit service organization in the US dedicated to supporting literary magazines and independent presses, is seeking to hire a Membership Senior Manager to join its small but mighty team.
The Membership Senior Manager reports to the Executive Director and is primarily responsible for maintaining CLMP’s Membership Program, including overseeing all daily membership operations—from recruitment to renewals to consulting with members to data management. This position serves as the expert on membership policies and benefits and collaborates with staff on the development of membership events, discounts, and other benefits.
This is a full-time position located in our New York City office. We offer a hybrid work environment, with potential to work remotely several days per week; candidates must be available to work in the office a minimum of two days per week and additionally as needed. Annual salary: $60,000, plus benefits including fully paid medical insurance and generous paid time off. Reports to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage 1,000+ memberships, including onboarding process, DonorPerfect database management, monthly reconciliation with accounting, and Directory profiles.
- Serve as the main point of contact for all members; respond to all inquiries; coordinate and provide consultations as needed; maintain and moderate the listservs; with support from the Membership & Communications Manager.
- Oversee and improve all membership systems, ensuring efficiency and excellent customer service.
- Manage all membership communications, including renewals, invoices, membership acceptances/rejections, onboarding materials, and related web pages, with support from the Membership & Communications Manager.
- Produce biweekly newsletter to communicate with and promote members.
- Research and recruit potential members on a monthly basis.
- Communicate members’ needs to staff and contribute to the creation of new member benefits.
- Represent CLMP and membership base at select industry events.
- Manage select membership benefit partnership relationships.
Qualifications:
- 5 years membership experience.
- Experience and expertise in the independent literary publishing field.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Technical proficiency in membership management software, content management systems, e-commerce platforms, Google applications, and social media platforms
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Survey Monkey.
- Experience working at a nonprofit organization, a plus.

Internships

CLMP offers competitive, compensated internships providing a broad introduction to all aspects of literary arts administration.
Joining CLMP’s small, dynamic staff as an intern means you’ll learn about and contribute to marketing, membership, development, operations, event planning, and content production on a weekly basis. From helping to plan events to organizing publishing contacts, participating in book fairs to snapping Instagram photos, contributing to our awards program to producing content for our newsletters, an internship with CLMP is multifaceted and rewards creative and motivated literary citizens with a passion for our industry.
Internships are offered one to three times a year, depending on CLMP’s needs, to individuals located in the US, preferably in New York City, the location of our office, or Portland, Oregon. Interns are expected to work 10 to 12 hours a week for approximately three months and are paid a $1,500 stipend at the end of the internship. Candidates must be able to commit to the full length of the internship. Hybrid in-office/remote and remote schedules will be considered as long as hours can be scheduled during CLMP’s regular office hours (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET).
