Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Abandon Journal exists to showcase writing and artwork that has been created with abandon. That term is free to be interpreted liberally, but ideally it is the kind of work that takes risks, created in a space wherein the artist doesn’t care what anyone else thinks or what everyone else is doing. We’re open to hybrid work, genre, visual art, and more. Each issue we showcase work that “abandons form,” (think hybrid or experimental work) and every other issue will be a variation on a theme of abandon. We are writers, too, and we are committed to paying our contributors–at least a modest honorarium, until we’re able to pay more–and never charging a fee for general submissions.

Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
Keep it short and sweet: tell us a bit about who you are, and how you found out about us, and anything we might need to know about your submission that isn't obvious. Do not give us a summary of your story or poem; let the work speak for itself.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
Anything funny goes straight to the top of the list. As does fearless, emotional impact, surprising, and experimentation. No hate speech.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Abandon preconceived notions of what you think people want to see, and abandon your fear. Just send it. But do these two things, first: 1) Edit it at least twice; and 2) Proofread your work before sending it.
Do You Have A Favorite Unsolicited Submission Discovery Or Anecdote?
We received poetry from a high school student in Philippines that was so outstanding--genuine, raw, honest, and moving--we published her in the first two issues. An amazing find, we were lucky she found us.
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
