 Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
 Since it's inception in 1992, Alaska Women Speak has work to amplify the stories of Alaska's women. In late 2015, volunteers reached out to survey women writers and readers across the state about what they wanted from AWS. In January 2016, volunteers compiled the responses and crafted a new mission and vision and strategic plan. 2016 brought forth a new look and feel to the publication. Currently in 2017, AWS is enjoying new partners, new voices and expanding its reach across our diverse and unique communities across the state.  Mission: Alaska Women have a story to tell. Alaska Women Speak is the journal devoted to their expression of ideas, literature and art.  Tag Line: Telling our stories  Goal 1:  Engage Quality Writers 
Strategy 1: Develop and improve design

 Build an engaging and regularly updated website  Tactic: Identify art organizations and send out regular call for cover art to artist organizations/networks in Alaska
Tactic: Send out regular call for writing to 49 Writers and Alaska Writers Guild and other writing organizations/communities as identified
Tactic: Identify an organization each from Barrow, Bethel, Fairbanks, Homer, Juneau, Kotzebue, Ketchikan, MatSu, Seward, Sitka, Kenai and Homer that will promote the journal. 
Tactic: feature voices and art from a region/hub in each quarterly publication. Develop a schedule to feature each over three years.
Tactic: Volunteers visit existing customers and promote their store as able.
Tactic: use social media platforms to regularly promote partners 
Goal 2: Recognize our volunteers and build community
Strategy 1: Make an in kind contribution to a particular type of organization that a volunteer board member has in their community. (women’s shelter, YWCA…)  Strategy 2: Use AWS publication to promote organizations with related missions.
Tactic: Publish stories from or about a organizations that readers would appreciate
Tactic: include established Alaska women writers and organizations in our publication distribution

Tactic: Launch a campaign to identify women leaders who are interested in the work and mission of Alaska Women Speak. 
Tactic: Solicit the support of said women leaders.  Strategy 3: Identify funding opportunities with organizations that complement the       mission of AWS and help meet the goals of the organization
