Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Black Sunflowers is a UK based, art oriented small poetry press with a focus on poetry from women and black poets. We are 'centring the edge', looking for a singular voice, like a musical note. Crowdfunded in 2020, the press published their first set of 5 chapbooks in Feb 2021, followed by 2 more in November along with the first SMEOP anthology.

Submissions Policy
Black Sunflowers will open up its call for submissions once or twice per year. These will be for poetry chapbooks between 16 and 40 pages in length - open to all poets internationally over the age of 18. As Black Sunflowers is particularly interested in the work of women, older women and black poets, the call out will be publicised in places that will attract this demographic. We will charge a nominal fee of $3 to submit. Free submissions will be offered to Black Sunflowers crowdfunders and low income poets who request it. The response time is expected to be 3 months of closing date of submissions and we do not provide any feedback.
