Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Cantine Press is a new independent publisher founded in 2024 and based in Oakland, California. We publish emerging and established writers in multiple languages, from the U.S. and around the world. We publish collections, like anthologies, and single-author works including novels, short story and essay collections, and poetry series. Any genre goes, and we'll work with visual art, too. We like book arts almost as much as literary arts, so you can find hand-bound Special Edition versions of our publications. We are a very small shop that prioritizes ethical printing and independent bookstores, and we pay all of our contributors. We love our local Bay Area communities, and we also love the far-reaching perspectives and experiences of writers from all places (and, potentially, from all times). We’re not uptight, but we’re passionate about publishing art that will move, inspire, and reshape the tired discourses of our day.
