Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
We read manuscripts anonymously, so the cover letter is often the last thing we see, but be sure to put all the information we require in there! If we can't find you to tell you we want to publish your book, it just might not happen.
How Are Submissions Processed In Your Magazine/press?
As we are a very small staff, we have cultivated a deep well of professional, published authors from a diverse range of backgrounds to help read and evaluate submissions and minimize/eliminate our knowledge gaps as much as possible.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
We look for an open, authentic invitation (with a consistent, trustworthy voice) to us as readers to step into and experience the world of the author. Give us the chance to feel what you felt in the crucial moments of your life you're writing about.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Familiarize yourself with CKP's catalog! Our website has tons of excerpts - cavankerrypress.org and our YouTube channel has several readings - youtube.com/channel/UCw74sVi0Da-W09TsjWac8Qw Beyond that, trust your voice and write from your heart.
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
Our ideal reader is someone who's curious and passionate about life in general and about the specific lives and experiences of others, especially those who may be different from themselves. A collection of writing is an opportunity to bridge worlds.
