Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Chthonic Lit is a biannual literary magazine exploring the space where genre fiction and literary fiction converge. We publish speculative short stories that blur the line between real and surreal. Each issue is rooted in the mythic, the uncanny, and the strange. While our primary focus is on short speculative fiction, we also welcome poetry, visual art, essays, and other experimental works that echo our chthonic ethos.

What Do You Look For In A Submission?
We love anything uncanny, different, and strange. Our publication is meant to be a space for all of the pieces that might get tossed in a classic literary fiction publication. We accept all genre fiction, but prefer speculative fiction.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Please read our submission form on submitable fully! We love hearing about you as an author and your interests/inspirations. Be clear but also expressive!
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
If you are reading Julia Armfield, Cassandra Khaw, Caitlin Starling, Samantha Shannon, Ursula K Le Guin, Octavia Butler, N.K. Jemisin—anyone who likes these styles is our ideal reader!
