Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
The mission of Community Literature Initiative (CLI) is to enable poets of color and those from underserved communities to have a voice through poetry and performance, and to share their narratives through published books. The CLI Publishing classes help writers to finalize manuscripts for publication through weekly workshops. World Stage Press is the publishing arm of CLI, publishing writers of color here in South LA. Our third program is the Sims Library of Poetry in South Los Angeles, in early fall 2020. A centralized brick-and-mortar space, CLI envisions the library open to the community to access both local and nationwide poets’ work, celebrate the community’s home-grown voices and narratives, and foster a shared experience through performances and readings.
