Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Farmer-ish is a journal dedicated to all things farmer–with a literary and educational slant. In the pages of this journal, you will find coverage for everything from raising chickens to jam recipes to poetry about farming and nature. As we face difficult times due to climate change, a pandemic, and social unrest, many today find themselves more interested in taking a step back, growing food, becoming makers, and living more connectedly to nature and their local farming communities. Our goal is to provide engaging and educational essays and how-to pieces for those interested in doing things like raising animals, gardening, canning, and sewing. Along the way, we will offer poetry, photography, and creative nonfiction, making Farmer-ish a journal that lives in between farming and the arts–a place we know so well here on Sands End Farm in beautiful Maine.
