Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
At French Quarter Journal, we report on New Orleans' oldest neighborhood as a community - not a commodity. We look further than the obvious tourist attractions that draw 18 million visitors a year to New Orleans and focus on the French Quarter's continuing evolution as a world-class incubator for individualism and creativity. The stories are fascinating - and numerous - for although the neighborhood's population has dwindled drastically in recent decades, it remains sacred ground for those who live to create.

Submissions Policy
We began in August 2019 after a year of back-end work. Currently, interested writers contact us with pitches. Our managing editor (Rheta Grimsley Johnson) and myself read previous pieces and if the writer seems to mesh with FQJ, we'll formally assign the piece. In the future, we'd like to use Submittable and reach out for submissions, continuing to pay for those we accept and publish.
