Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Independence Literary Review’s mission is to build a prism of creative, independent thought and artistic exploration through words and images. We believe in the power of writing and art to open windows to new ways of seeing our world, and we intend for our magazine to do this for our audiences. We are committed to finding the best emerging and established writers and artists interrogating the complexity and nuances of our world, and to amplifying their voices. We are committed to supporting a diversity of writers, artists, and aesthetics, including those that have been historically underrepresented in publishing. We accept topics of all themes, plus each of our issues contains a smaller, themed folio. Our first themed folio, “Healthcare and Healing,” will feature creative explorations of healthcare, illness, and healing in their manifold forms. We publish twice a year simultaneously online and in print, and we pay our contributors for their work.
