Honesty, foremost. We say in our mission statement that we want an education, and we do. We want to feel people's histories, feel where they come from and how they got here. We want to feel like we walked down that road, too.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Your work will speak for itself. Be brave, send your best. And make sure your submission is tailored to the magazine. If we read something great, but it truly has nothing to do with our editorial focus, we won't be able to accept it.
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
Everyone! I mean it. We want all readers to come and see their stories reflected in Kitchen Table Quarterly, and we want them to find connection and kinship through reading the work of other writers, as well.
