Making Waves: a West Michigan Literary Review is a product of Ludington Writers, a diverse group of wordsmith enthusiasts and practitioners. Inspired by each other and the beauty of the lakeshore and landscapes around us, our mission is to engender creativity within our local community and beyond.

Submissions Policy
DEADLINE Submissions will open from May 1st through June 12th for September publication. Our response time is up to three months. REQUIREMENTS Previously unpublished works only. Simultaneous submissions are allowed. However, submitters must notify our editors immediately if their work is accepted by another publication. All electronic submissions should be made through Submittable. Printed submissions must include a SASE and be mailed to: Making Waves c/o LACA 107 S. Harrison St. Ludington, MI 49431   RIGHTS Submitters grant First Rights to publish to Making Waves. We may reprint accepted work on our website, LudingtonWriters.org. Otherwise, all rights revert to the author upon publication. FORMAT MS Word or PDF files only. All submissions must use 12-point type with one-inch margins. Our font preference is Times New Roman. Prose should be double spaced. Poetry submissions may be single or double-spaced, as required by the form chosen by the author. Each submission should include a cover page with the author’s name, address, phone number, and email address in the upper left of the page and the title(s) of the submission in the center with a short author bio two spaces below. POETRY We consider poetry of any style. Submissions are limited to no more than two pieces with a maximum of five pages at a time. Please keep in mind that space limitations allow for no more than 60 characters per line and 30 lines per page. PROSE Both fiction and non-fiction will be considered. Submissions are limited to no more than one piece of short fiction and one personal essay. Each submission should be a stand-alone piece of no more than 1,000 words (not including name or title). SUBMISSION FEES Active members of Ludington Writers will not have to pay a fee for their first set of two pieces (poetry, prose, or one of each). A fee of $3 will be required for any additional submissions and from all other submitters. Each submission may include up to two attachments (one file containing up to two poems and/or one file containing up to two pieces of prose). All submitters will receive a link to an electronic copy of Making Waves. Submission fees will help pay for our subscription to an electronic submissions manager. Any additional funds collected will be used to fund scholarships, workshops, and other community events to promote creative writing.
