Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Modern Artist Press looks to expand and explode the definition of a modern artist by publishing literary fiction, including novels and short story collections. As a publisher, I am committed to promoting new literary voices and amplifying the work of writers and artists with marginalized identities. In Western art history, “modern art” refers to new and innovative artwork created by white European and American men and a handful of women between 1860 and 1970. And so, by using the term “modern artist” for contemporary writers, I am already taking an expansive view of this definition. But I also see the authors in Modern Artist Press’s catalog pushing literary fiction in new directions.
