Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
Be brief! I honestly don't read cover letters until after I have read the poems or looked at the artwork in the submission. The cover letter helps authenticate the voice.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
Your best work, of course! We are very open to different styles and forms at OTC. A concrete poem can face a sonnet very nicely. We like surprises, authentic voices, and translations. Send us the work that gnaws at you.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Take a chance on us. Read our guidelines. If we turn down your submission, try again.
Do You Have A Favorite Unsolicited Submission Discovery Or Anecdote?
Our favorite discoveries are youth poets. When we read a submission and say, that was a really good poem, then read the cover letter and find it was written by a high school student, we are amazed, and excited about the future of poetry!
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
Our ideal reader enjoys an eclectic range of forms and styles.
