Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
TallGrass Writers Guild is a Chicago-based, independent arts organization serving writers at all levels of development for 30 years. We provide local and regional performance and publishing opportunities. In accordance with our community service philosophy, TallGrass provides an Open Mic that is held at the Sulzer Regional Branch of the Chicago Public Library on the 4th Saturday of every month. The reading is open to the public, especially to writers of all ages and abillity, and is free. Each writer has an opportunity to read out loud his/her work to the Chicago community in attendance. During the pandemic, all sessions have been held via Zoom. We have also produced special reading/events for Black History Month, National Poetry Month, Women's History Month, and Breast Awareness Month. We also produce (and have for the last 30 years) an annual anthology of fiction, poetry, and memoir. All editorial services are in-house volunteers consisting of the TallGrass Board of Directors. Through all our activities we hope to support new writing that is made by local writers and heard by the local community in which the writing is created. All ethnic groups and ages are encouraged to explor their thoughts and feelings through writing and present their work to the community in which they live.
