Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
A short hello is always appreciated. I don't need a detailed list of what is being submitted, but if you feel that some background information would be helpful, please include it. Bio statements should list 2-3 publications, not a complete listing.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
I'm a big story guy. I don't want to read something that is just a jumble of words, but something that draws me into a moment. I want poems that are accessible. That doesn't mean they have to be simple, or the reader doesn't have to work at it.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Rejection is normal. We've all had pieces that we thought were gold but have piled up the rejection emails. Poems have to land on the right desk. A no doesn't mean the poem isn't worthy, it means that it's just not right at this point in time for me.
Do You Have A Favorite Unsolicited Submission Discovery Or Anecdote?
For our first issue (that I had intended to be the only issue) I received some photos from a poet in Scotland of a place in Ontario I had never heard of before. It led to an amazing day of local tourism and discovery with family and friends.
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
Our ideal reader is someone who appreciates honest and accessible poems. Someone who loves the simple things, special moments captured by keen eyes. We hope that our publications are read by every member of your family, including your mother.
