Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
We are Boston- and Cambridge-based writers, editors, and creative professionals aiming to foster a community of creative individuals and organizations dedicated to art, ideas, and making culture thrive. Combining ‘Pangea’, the world continent, and ‘gyrus’–-the ridges of the cerebral cortex crucial to verbal association–Pangyrus is about connection.

Pangyrus publishes well-crafted, thought-provoking writing and multimedia storytelling: short stories, investigative reporting, reviews, essay and memoirs, flash fiction, poetry, journalism, short documentary film, comics and visual arts, just to name a few. If a piece is what we’re looking for, our editors work with the author to polish it for publication. General submissions are open two times per year for three months. We publish work on our website and in one or two print editions per year. In addition to general submissions we are interested in specific themes: — In Sickness & In Health: Life in the Pandemic and Beyond — This is a time when shared voices matter. We have opened up our submissions earlier than planned to receive work that explores what has been lost--and what gained--as ordinary life takes on extraordinary dimensions. — Science! - We love science! We know our readers do too. We are especially interested in topics based around science in today’s political climate and women in science & engineering (WISE). Pieces that spotlight women who have reached success in these fields despite the odds are welcome. — Zest! We think food writing is delicious and we actively seek submissions in this category. Poetry, fiction, nonfiction are all welcome. We are also interested in Lightning submissions: nonfiction pieces tied to occasions that have immediate relevance or that are coming up soon. Lightning submissions are presumed to be for our online publication and may or may not be right for the print edition.
