Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Plants & Poetry is a small, women and indigenous-owned business founded in Northwest Arkansas in 2019. Jamie Nix and Leslie Walker create a space that nurtures a love for the arts and science, offering poetry & plant education to reconnect with the soil and soul. Our communities face some of the most challenging environmental issues of our time. It can be overwhelming to address the issues and transform our feelings and admiration for our planet into tangible and clear calls to action. However, the arts provide a safe space for communities to not only examine certain environmental goals like soil restoration, water quality and management, and ecological food systems but create a platform for creative expression, ideation, and connection within a community as we collectively find solutions to these large challenges. Plants & Poetry is a small organization on a mission to bridge the arts and science to inspire communities to reconnect with the environment. To cultivate this bridge, the organization has created a nature-inspired literary journal, Plants & Poetry Journal, and a community food forest, The Oasis, in Bella Vista, AR.
