Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Public Poetry showcases the enduring power of poetry, conveys poetry’s range, relevance and reach throughout the year. We uphold diverse minority voices, layer multiple genres, encourage collaborative possibilities, and provide new opportunities for poets. We pay poets for their work and initiate collaborative partnerships that enrich the cultural community, delivering poetry to audiences in Houston and beyond. We publish annually.

Submissions Policy
We accept all submissions on Submittable. All submissions are read blind. We pay a diverse mix of grad students, faculty, and published poets to serve as first readers. A diverse panel of judges, also paid, select the poems for publications. Former US Poet Laureate, Robert Pinsky, three Texas state Poets Laureate, Patricia Spears Jones, are just a few of the poets who have served on our panels.
