Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
The Renaissance Review is a literary magazine that aims to bridge the gap between humanities and science, weaving together fact and emotion, knowledge and art, the tangible and the fantastical. Renaissance artists were not only writers, painters, performers, and musicians, but also inventors, philosophers, scientists, and scholars who delved deep into any subject that captivated them. We hope to capture the same spirit in our work and inspire a modern renaissance in this new generation. We welcome all kinds of writing, especially pieces that draw on a range of different passions. Short stories built on science, poems that bring historical figures to life, essays that view art through different lenses, hybrid pieces that explore social tensions—whether your words are inspired by experience, reflection, or anything in-between, we want to read them. We encourage anyone of any age, gender, and nationality to submit; our goal is to spin diverse, multicolored perspectives and topics into the fabric of the future. Though the historical Renaissance era was Eurocentric and patriarchal, the new Renaissance that we hope to usher in will be one that uplifts all voices. We believe that a Renaissance man can be someone of any identity who ardently pursues intellect, art, and innovation.

Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
Introduce yourself + your submissions, thank the editors for their hard work, specify whether the submission is simultaneous, and be polite! Personally, the Adroit Journal has a great resource for cover letters that I always find myself turning to.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
An evident blending of multiple disciplines, new and fresh concepts, and most importantly, the ability to keep us captivated.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
As a first-time submitter, you're going to face a lot of rejection in the future (as does every writer!!) but don't let it get you down. Persistence is key. Also, don't be scared of us RenRev editors, we don't bite :)
Do You Have A Favorite Unsolicited Submission Discovery Or Anecdote?
Once, we were so torn on a piece that, through one EIC's prudent advice (thanks, Susan!), we ended up retracting a rejection!! It's a beautiful piece, and I couldn't be more grateful that we changed our minds.
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
We don't really have an ideal reader in terms of age, gender, or geographic location. Anybody with a curious mind and an appreciation for the arts is welcome to read the Renaissance Review!
