Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Responding to an unsettling and turbulent political reality, Room: A Sketchbook for Analytic Action is devoted to maintaining connections to ourselves and to our community through writing, art, music, and activism – disciplines that share with psychoanalysis a capacity to uncover the ‘hard to reach’ corners of our humanity. We invite contributions from mental health professionals, writers, poets, artists, and photographers working all around the world. The editors have a hand in bringing forth new meaning in each iteration of ROOM by identifying the central themes which emerge within each submission cycle. In this way ROOM parallels the psychoanalytic process; it is co-constructed and organic to itself.

What Do You Look For In A Submission?
ROOM is an agent of community building and transformation. ROOM’s forum is an intersection of psychoanalysis, politics, and culture. We look for high quality writing, meaningful content and new ideas.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
We work closely with submissions we feel have possibility. We don't know what the theme of the issue will be ahead of time so write what is important on your mind NOW. Always interested in new voices.
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
thoughtful, smart, appreciative of quality writing and graphic design. Our readers are not necessarily in the mental health field but they are interested in what psychoanalysis might bring to the conversation during these very complicated times.
