Rural Fiction Magazine explores the beauty and drama of rural life around the world through short stories and poetry. As of September 20, 2023, we have had readers from forty-six nations.* RFM seeks primarily mainstream/literary stories and poetry set in the rural US or rural areas around the globe, but all genres are welcome so long as the work relates in some fashion to rural areas.

Please include a bio of ca. fifty words and mention whether the submission is previously published or is a simultaneous submission. Include in your bio a few keywords that might attract readers/researchers. For example, mention your home state/town.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
Clarity of language; lean, muscular writing; brevity; skill with the language; power in the story/poem; etc. Having a standard format such as Shunn helps immensely.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Read and heed the guidelines. Take them to heart. The easier it is for the publisher to read your work and understand it, the better your chances of being published are. Be creative in your writing but conservative in your formatting.

Someone who has at least graduated high school and preferably college and has an interest in the art of writing as well as a good deal of life experience and interest in rural communities or the rural lifestyle and may be well traveled.
