Sterncastle Magazine is a themed literary magazine dedicated to showcasing compelling short fiction and original artwork in a thoughtfully curated, quarterly publication. Each issue is built around a unifying theme, offering writers and artists a shared point of departure while allowing for a wide range of genres, styles, and interpretations. We are interested in work that is accessible, imaginative, and emotionally resonant. Our primary focus is short fiction of 6,000 words or fewer, including literary fiction, genre fiction, and genre-bending narratives that balance craft with momentum. We welcome stories that take risks within recognizable forms and that demonstrate a clear command of voice, character, and structure. While experimental approaches are not excluded, we favor work that remains readable and grounded, with an emphasis on clarity and intention. In addition to fiction, Sterncastle Magazine features original artwork selected to complement each issue’s theme. Visual submissions may include illustration, painting, drawing, collage, photography, or mixed media. Artwork is presented as an integral part of the magazine rather than as an afterthought, creating a dialogue between text and image that enhances the reader’s experience. Sterncastle is especially committed to amplifying emerging and underrepresented voices, including writers and artists who may not yet have access to mainstream literary platforms. We believe strong storytelling exists across traditions, genres, and backgrounds, and we aim to create a space where that work can be seen, read, and taken seriously. At its core, Sterncastle Magazine is about discovery: discovering new voices, new perspectives, and new ways of approaching familiar themes. Each issue is designed to feel cohesive, intentional, and enduring.
